In IL I hated to see the summer end.  In AZ I don't mind so much because the fall and winter will be beautiful also.  I made a treasury for etsy about the last rose of summer.

Nature

I am a lover of all nature.  I am devastated by the gulf tragedy.  I can't look at any more pictures of the death and destruction.  I collect pelicans and seeing them covered with slimy oil and unable to fly or move makes me sick.  In honor of nature I am listing a few of my new fused glass pendants.

Grandchildren

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a soccer game. My 6 year old granddaughter plays on a soccer team and we went to the game. All the kids were adorable, but Mackenzie was a standout. With her blonde pony tails flying and her too big shorts almost falling down, she ran and kicked and dribbled like a star. Our 8 year grandson was with us cheering for his sister. He is a very talented tennis player like his Dad. Their Mom was cheering so loud I thought she would lose her voice. What a great slice of America in a time of such violence.

117 Degrees

It's going to be 117 degrees today. It was 115 degrees yesterday and it will be triple digits for at least 2 weeks. But it's a dry heat. lol We can't take the dogs for a walk because it would burn their feet. I feel guilty because they love their walks.

It amazes me that I fire my fused glass to 1500 degrees in the kiln. Now that is really hot. Here are a few example of my work.

Dichroic Glass Pendants

I am a glass artist and love dichroic glass. It was developed at NASA in the 60's and is beautiful in jewelry. It has a transmitted and a reflected color, which makes it dance in the light. The color changes depending on the lighting and the angle at which it is viewed. I cut the glass in pieces of varying sizes and shapes. I arrange the pieces in layers on a base glass and then fire it in a kiln to 1500 degrees. Then it is cooled very slowly, smoothed and shaped, using a grinder and then fired again. It is a lengthy process but the results are beautiful. My jewelry is for sale on my website, fireflyglassdesign.etsy.com.
